Kurius Hack: COVID-19
After weeks of preparation, we are excited to finally bring to you a new Kurius Hack, designed to tackle COVID-19 during these difficult times. In just 4 weeks, you will be able to build up your coding portfolio by teaching yourself new technologies alongside motivated peers, turn your knowledge into practical skills by working on an amazing project of your own, and connect with industry mentors who will guide you on bringing your project to real life! Everything will be free and hosted online for you to get started.
Monday and Friday.
The 4 pillars of our Kurius Hack
Part 1. Dream it.
It all begins with an idea that you are passionate about and want to bring to real life. You’ll be brainstorming, fine-tuning the specifics, and coming up with a plan to make your idea come to fruition over the next month. However, since our focus is more on the process, we’ll be assisting you in coming with a feasible project idea to bring you the maximum educational value.
Part 2. Learn it.
Once your plan is established, you are ready to acquire any knowledge necessary to build your project. We will be there to guide you on your learning process during the entire month. We’ll be encouraging you to learn about industry-standard technologies and provide you with resources to do so.
Part 3. Build it.
You’ll be transferring your freshly acquired knowledge into skill through a hands-on approach on your project idea. You’ll have access to a network of industry mentors who will help you in your journey to complete a viable product within a month.
Part 4. Use it.
After a month of hard work and determination, you’re at the end of the Kurius Hack. Whether you decide to pursue your project after the event or put it to the side, you’ll realize that you have learned so much during this single month and joined a new community. Congratulations!
Rethinking Hackathons
There have been quite a few coding events and hackathons popping up for students in recent years. However, while hackathons are designed to encourage student innovation, Kurius Hack is the only one that truly empowers students with the skills they need to thrive in the real world.
How do we do this? Kurius is a month-long program that brings the best out of both worlds from bootcamps and hackathons in order to let students strive within a community.
Hackathons were designed for people with tons of coding experience. It rewards people who are fast at building projects, and punishes those who are slow but driven learners.
Sprints vs. Marathons
Research shows that only 8% of hackathon projects are pursued and only 50% of participants keep learning after the end of the event.
Our team, composed of students who have had years of experience organizing hackathons and student tech events, have set out on a mission to build a platform focused on community, growth, and teamwork, rather than a competition between one another. This is why we created Kurius.
Kurius Hack is a marathon, not a sprint. It encourages driven students to learn and break boundaries by experimenting with new technologies throughout an entire month. It’s a chance for you to constantly keep yourself intellectually stimulated, surrounded by mentors and motivated peers, without draining your body physically and mentally.
Preparing you to enter the workforce
With a hands-on approach to tackling problems in society and guided by mentors who work in the industry . You will be intellectually challenged, but by the end of it, you will have created an entire project that you can add to your portfolio and used the necessary tools to enter the industry.
Accessibility
As part of our nonprofit plea, the event is open to anyone since our goal is truly to make coding more accessible to the world.
Everyone can build impactful projects. With commitment.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for individuals that are committed to learning. If you’re driven to keep improving, if you’re excited to learn simply for the pleasure of acquiring knowledge, if you feel rewarded by your own progress, if you want to meet new people, and if you want to step out of your comfort zone, we’re the perfect place for you!
