KuriusHacks: Christmas Edition
KuriusHacks: Christmas Edition is a 3-day virtual hackathon created by the Kurius team and focused on the theme of “Hunger and Food Security.” Our event will take place during the last few weeks of December – in the spirit of the holidays and social good. FAQs
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a coding-based event where high school and post-secondary students will work collaboratively over a weekend to build awesome projects. Hackathons are usually hosted to solve a problem, diversify participants’ skills or bring awareness to a social issue.
Who can attend?
Anyone in a high school, a CÉGEP or an undergraduate post-secondary program in Canada can attend, as long as they are interested in building a project related to this year’s theme!
How much does it cost?
The event is completely free! Kurius tries to not charge its participants for any event.
Do I need to work in a team?
Nope! While Kurius encourages teamwork, it is definitely not compulsory for this event.
How many members are allowed per team?
You are allowed up to 4 members per team.
What if I don’t have teammates before I come into the event?
Coming in with a team is recommended but NOT required! Regardless, we’ll have a Discord channel open for you to find teammates.
Do I need to prepare anything?
Nope, not at all. Aside from a device on which you can access the event and code, there is nothing else to prepare for!
Who owns my project after the hackathon?
The project belongs completely to you. Kurius encourages sharing projects within our community, but it is not necessary to do so in order to participate.
What programming languages are allowed?
You are free to use any programming language and IDE you choose, except if you wish to participate in the echoAR challenge, for which you must use their specific AR/VR platform.
Where is this event taking place?
This event is taking place completely online on the Kurius Discord.
What kind of support is there?
As the event will be run entirely on Discord, we will have mentors available through messaging to help you with any questions you may have in the hackathon’s channels. Our administrators are also always available during the event.
Can I apply to be a mentor?
Yes! The link to apply as a mentor is at the bottom of the page. You can also apply here.
What are the challenges?
The challenges will be presented during the opening ceremony in order to offer all hackers the same time to work on their projects.
How does the application process work?
The process is rather informal. We ask that you fill out the relevant sign-up form and join the Discord. All participants are accepted right away, so you will not receive an email to confirm your participation. If you absolutely wish to confirm with us, just reach out to one of our administrators on the server!
Who will be judging?
The judge panel will comprise various members of the Kurius administrative team.
