FAQs

What is a Game Jam?

A Game Jam is similar to a hackathon in that it is a coding marathon where you work with other hackers (Jammers) to develop games within a specified timeframe (in this case, 5 days)! At the end, your team will demo your games online. Our judging panel and community vote will determine the winners of this Game Jam and you can win prizes!

What is the theme of this Game Jam?

This Game Jam will be focused on the theme of Christmas. The specific Christmas theme will be announced during the Game Jam.

What kinds of workshops and activities will there be?

We will host various workshops on game development and design! We will also be hosting a game night to allow you to take a break from coding and meet new people while having fun!

Who can attend?

This event is open to all high school, CÉGEP, and undergraduate students, regardless of location or experience!

How much does it cost to attend?

Nothing! The event is completely free for all registered participants!

Do I need to know programming to participate?

No, not at all. In fact, usually, most Game Jams are lacking in artists and have more developers than artists! Artists are also essential in the making of games as they are the ones who create the assets. Plus, we have beginner workshops on game development to teach you how to code!

How can I register for KuriusHacks?

You can register for KuriusHacks here.

Where is KuriusHacks happening and how long is it for?

Keeping your safety and comfort in mind, KuriusHacks will be conducted virtually in our Discord server to freely facilitate innovation. This game jam will last 5 days (Dec 26-30)!

How many people can there be in a team?

Your team can have up of to 4 people.

Is this a team event? What if I do not have a team?

Yes, it is a team event but if going solo is your style, we are all for it. You can also meet new people and find yourself a team through our Discord server before the jamming begins!

Can I submit a game that I've previously made?

No. You can only submit games that are made during the given Game Jam timeframe. You may reuse some previous work done, but most of the game development should happen during the jam!
