Why you should Learn to Code as a student

Learning to code may seem like an extremely daunting tasks, especially if you never had any experience beforehand. Before I started to learn to code, I always thought that programming was something for extremely smart people, that I would never do in my entire life. Sitting in front of a computer screen all day was simply something that I didn’t want to do for the rest of my life. However, after giving programming a shot, I never stopped. I believe coding is made for everyone, no matter what your interests are. Furthermore, learning to program is no longer as difficult as it was a few decades ago. In today’s day and age, there are so many online resources for beginners to learn to code, so you can easily teach yourself programming. We’ve put together our own list of resources for you to get started coding over here, but in this article, I will try to explain to you why learning to code is so important and useful in today’s society.

1. Coding is fun, rewarding and magical

For me, coding is like painting a piece of art. it is like crafting an essay, a story through select words. It is putting together a bunch of lines of code that don’t make any sense alone, but together can somehow create functioning applications that have the power to literally change the world. The process of making things work with code is rewarding and magical. You will experience it after building your first program and seeing how code magically works.

2. software development jobs

Coding is the fundamental skill for jobs such as software development. There is currently a shortage of software developers worldwide, so learning to code can be an easy route into an open field of work. The average Software Engineer salary in Canada is $96,625 per year or $49.55 per hour. Entry level positions start at $39,000 per year while most experienced workers make up to $164,263 per year.

3. Technology is the future

There is no doubt that technology is the present and the future. We are living in a digital transformation of the world. Coding will help you become more digitally fluent and enable you to have more agency on the technologies that you use.

4. Pursue passion projects

There are so many things you can do if you know how to code. Any application in your imagination is programmable. You can easily make these ideas come to real life if you become proficient at programming.

5. Boost problem solving and logic skills

Programming teaches you how to think. This is because programming requires a lot of logic, understanding how code functions and interact with each other. Undeniably, learning to code will help you become a better problem solver.

6. Anyone can learn it

When I was young, I wanted to be a dentist or an aerospace engineer. However, these things were very difficult to pursue as a child and study unless I went to university. However, pretty much anyone can learn to code without having to go to university. It doesn’t take several years or cost thousands. Everything can be learned online from the comfort of your own home and you can learn it whenever you want.
